Chicken Lovin Hot Mama Apron Swap Completed

Another successful apron swap has been completed, Val's Chicken Lovin Hot Mama Apron Swap. The rules for this swap were to create a handmade apron with a chicken theme and include two Chicken crock-pot recipes and two kitchen staples. This swap was a little different from the previous ones in that it wasn't a secret swap and the partner you had also had you.

My partner for this swap was Nadine and she put together this wonderful package for me.
Thank you Nadine for a lovely package.

And this is the package that I put together and sent to Nadine.

Quilt Show

The Jersey Girl Quilters and I went to Quilt Fest in Somerset NJ. We had a nice day walking through the displays and checking out the vendors. On the way home we stopped at our two local quilt shops, Olde City Quilts and The Village Quilter.

Here are a few quilts that were displayed that I thought were very interesting:

Baby Quilts

My cousin and my niece both had babies last month. My cousin had a boy and my niece had a girl. Both moms and babies are doing fine. I finally got around to making a baby quilt for each. Due to time of which I never seem to have much of lately I picked up two quilt kits at The Village Quilter to make these quilts. Now I got to get them off in the mail.

These are the labels for each quilt:

February Friday Night Sew In

The February Friday Night Sew in was last night, February 18. It was also my youngest child's 25th birthday, Happy Birthday Thomas.

Anyway I was pretty tired as it had been a long work week. So I decided on a simple project, my last block of the month from Olde City Quilts.

Today when I pulled it out to take a picture it didn't look right. I discovered that I had sewn the bottom red arrow on upside down. So ripping I went to fix it. I'm glad I didn't start on the apron for the next swap.

But I now have all 12 blocks completed. I picked up the finishing kit earlier this week from Olde City. Now I just have to find the time to work on it.

Another Completed Flirty Apron Swap

The theme for the latest Flirty Apron Swap was Cutie Pie Apron (Pies, Valentines and Vintage Love).

I received the cutest swap package from Karen. She sent me this gorgeous apron, the most adorable owl key chain that she made, some cookie cutters, trim, owl socks and delicious chocolate almonds. Thank you Karen. I love my apron and goodies. Karen recently opened an Etsy shop. She is selling aprons, owl items and other goodies. Go check it out.

Now here is the apron I made for Carrie. BTW, I "borrowed" these pictures from her website. I made her this vintage style apron, and included some mints, some cookie cutters (the same ones I received from Karen), a few bar mop towels I embroidered, a couple of spatulas, a cookie recipe book, a little bottle of hand sanitizer, a nail file, some vintage tissues and a little kit for a "sweet treat bag".

Many thanks to Shawnee for hosting yet another wonderful, successful swap.

And Yet Another Bow Tucks Bag

Cinzia my loctician loved the Xbag that I gave her for her birthday so much that she gave me this orange stripey fabric and asked if I could make another one. Well the fabric she gave me was in pieces and not yardage and I didn't have enough for a Xbag. So I told her I could make her a different type of bag and that I would need to add a coordinating fabric. Reluctantly she agreed. It took me a while but I found the print to match the orange fabric and I made her a bow tucks bag. I also made her a coordinating wallet and purse. She loved it! I told her though no more challenges.

Pockets To Go

These are Pockets to Go, a really cute and fun pattern from Atkinson Designs.
The pattern was very simple and really easy to follow.
The pockets actually went together pretty fast.
The hand sewing of the bindings took me awhile but I'm getting faster at it.

I took them to work to use on my desk.
Maybe I'll make another set for my sewing room.

Friday Night Sew in Projects

I participated in the Friday Night Sew In for January. I have been working on two bags that are for birthday gifts. I had to finish this one because the dinner party is tonight at Hibachi's in Philly. I'm still not sure if I'm going. It is so bitter cold out. I may be nice and babysit my grand kids so my daughter can go. Anyway this is another Newport Bag. I made this for my son's girlfriend. I hope she likes it. I had this fabric awhile, it is by Timeless Treasure. I'm determined this year to put a dent in the fabric stash. I had meant to lengthen the strap on my next Newport Bag but remembered after I cut it. I'll try and remember for the one in the works below.

Now this one is in the works. It is for my sister, whose birthday has already passed. But by the time I see her again it should be finished. I needed more Pellon fusible fleece. On the way home from work I stopped by the super Jo~Ann's. And guess what? They were out. Sheesh, they have been having what is called a "winter warm up" sale and all batting is 50% off. People have been buying this stuff up. If I had known that I would have went to the smaller Jo~Ann store near work. Oh well. That is what 50% off coupons are for. I'll pick some up next week. I'm using a Moda Charm Pack for this one, it's called "Nostagia" by April Cornell.

After I left Jo~Ann's yesterday I made at stop at Olde City Quilts to pick up some Valentine fabric. I need to get my apron done for the Flirty Apron Swap. Here's the fabric I picked up and am thinking about this pattern as it is appropriate for this theme. Funny at Olde City Quilts they were having a sew in!!!

And last but not least I did a little knitting once I left the sewing room. I watched my daily recording of the View and worked on this scarf a bit. This project has been lingering entirely too long. I need to finish it.
