Back to the Future Apron Swap Completed

Another Flirty Apron Swap completed. Shawnee's theme this time was Back To The Future. You had to do a apron from the 50s, the 80s, the future or an apron based on the movie. Hmm. Then you had two include at least 3 tuck ins, one from each era: the 50ss, the 80s and the 21st century. Hmm, I admit was stumped. So what I came up with was buying fabric representing each of the eras and creating a tuck in from the fabric.

For the apron I went with the 50s. I found this fabric and fell in love with it. Umm, I was born in the 50s, cough, cough. I made up a "clothespin" style apron. I used the sew simple Retro Print Apron pattern by Dawn Stewart of Springwater Designs that was featured in the Winter 2010 edition of QuickQuilts. I really like this pattern, makes a nice and simple half apron.

For the 50s tuck ins I made an oven mitt from the 50s fabric and I found some color matching cocktail style napkins that represented the 50s.

The 80s kind of stumped me. I remember the 80s really well, I had all 3 of my kids in that decade. Then I came across some Cabbage Patch Kids Fabric and made another Smart Bag from the fabric.

For the 21st century I found this futuristic fabric and seed up this travel case with the fabric. The case holds sewing essentials and is convenient for taking to classes, sew/quilt alongs, etc.

I also tucked in a few other items in the swap package. My partner for this swap was Jena G aka Country Girl from Texas. I hope she liked her Back to the Future apron package. Now, I need to watch the movie. I haven't watched it yet and I understand it's being re-released.

Now here is the swap package that I received from Jennifer. I always wanted a vintage apron and now I have two. Jennifer sent me this apron that was hand made by Janet from the Empty Nest. It is gorgeous.

The tuck ins were cute: A vintage "chicken scratch" apron representing the 50s, white bead bracelets representing the 80s, and a photo mousepad which represented the 21st century. Thanks Jennifer!
