It's a Hoot!

I received the cutest swap package from Regena, tiki owls.

The apron is reversible! I love reversible aprons.

Regena included some goodies, a tissue holder, a rotary cutter case, mini photo album, some fabric that was leftover (this works great because I still have some of this owl fabric left from when I made a few bags) and the cutest little owl pendant. It is adorable.

Chicken Lovin Hot Mama Apron Swap Completed

Another successful apron swap has been completed, Val's Chicken Lovin Hot Mama Apron Swap. The rules for this swap were to create a handmade apron with a chicken theme and include two Chicken crock-pot recipes and two kitchen staples. This swap was a little different from the previous ones in that it wasn't a secret swap and the partner you had also had you.

My partner for this swap was Nadine and she put together this wonderful package for me.

Forest Friends Apron Swap

I can't help it, I'm addicted to apron swaps. I have my aprons finished for both the BTF and AIW swaps so I went ahead and signed up for this one. If interested, you have until Saturday, August 14 to sign up. Happy swapping!

Hot Mama Pin Up Apron

This is the reversible apron I did for Val's latest Hot Mama Apron Swap. The theme for this swap was Pin Up Girl. My partner likes cowgirls and western gear. Luckily I was able to find Pin Up Cowgirl fabric. She also likes to bbq. With the left over fabric I made some oven mitts and hot pads to match the apron. I also included some other goodies. I hope my partner likes everything.

Block of the Month Projects

I thought last night was the sew in. Duh, I need to check dates, LOL. Anyway I ended up having company that stayed over, my dd and her 3 kiddies. So instead of sewing I'd concentrate on organizing projects. I have 3 block of the month (BOM) projects from last year that need to be put together. I have decided not to start any other projects (the exception being aprons for the swaps I've committed to) until these are done. So last night I gathered all the blocks and all the finishing materials together to see exactly what I needed to do to finish up these projects.

This project was a paper piecing project from Piecing with Grace, a LQS. This was my first BOM since I've started quilting. I learned paper piecing at the shop. These are the fabrics from the finishing kit to complete the project.


Next up is the BOM from Pastimes Quilt Shop. I completed the blocks a few weeks ago at the Jersey Girl Quilters get together.


The shop has a finishing kit but I decided not to go with it. I have these matching fabrics and still need to decide how I'm going to complete the top. This will be a quilt that will be donated somewhere down the line.


The last project was another one at Piecing With Grace. This project consists of embroidered blocks and is named the Crazy Compass Quilt by the Hoop Sisters. This was a quilt as you go project so all that is left to do is add the sashing and the binding.

I'm going to use the leftover material to complete the sashing and binding of these blocks. I'm anxious to get this one completed because it matches my newly created sewing room.


Lastly I decided what fabric I'm going to use to do my apron for the Martini Madness Apron Swap. Aprons have to be mailed by February 8 so I need to get busy on it.


So I didn't get any actual sewing done but at least I organized my projects and now know what I need to do. I have my work cut out for me, don't I? Now what I need to do is find the time.

Lastly the Sassy Flirty Apron Swap hosted by Shawnee & Lucy. This "pink" swap was held during October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month, in support of the cause. You had to make two aprons, one for your swap partner and one donated for the cause.

Flirty Apron Swaps

During this year I got hooked on aprons. Why, I have no idea because I am NOT in the kitchen. I am retired from cooking. But aprons are quick and they make good gifts. Also I've been told they are sexy, hmmm. Anyway I did a few swaps. Swapping is a lot of fun and you meet a lot of new virtual pals. There are drawbacks though because there are unscrupulous folks out there who want something for nothing.

I participated in four swaps this year. Two Flirty Apron Swaps hosted by Shawnee, One Sassy Apron Swap Hosted by Lucy & Shawnee and One Hot Mama Apron Swap hosted by Val. Whew, that was a lot of linking. Here are the swap packages that I received:

Flirty Apron Swaps - there were two: I Love Lucy Theme and White Christmas Theme.

The I Love Lucy Swap was my first. My swap partner did not follow through (remember I mentioned there was unscrupulous folks out there. Well whoever this person is shame on you). Many thanks to Tara who kindly angeled for this swap and sent me this lovely package:


Tara pegged me correctly as she read my scant not a lot of posting blog. She sent me roving, yarn and fat quarters along with an apron. Many thanks Tara, you are a real sweetheart of an angel.

I made an apron and sent a package for this swap to Stephanie J. I enjoyed making this package.





I swapped out the fat quarters before mailing. I was able to find more "blue" material which is Stephanies favorite color.
